Haiti Must Proceed With Presidential Elections This Year

The Associated Press has just released the news article stating that Haiti must proceed with their presidential election this year despite the recent earthquake devastation. This is according to a statement by a United Nations official on Thursday.

According to the Haitian constitution president Preval is barred from seeking re-election and Acting U.N. mission chief Edmond Mulet told The Associated Press that Haiti cannot afford constitutional "slippage" as it rebuilds from the Jan. 12 disaster.

President Preval's five year term comes to an end next February.
