Haiti After The Earthquake - The State Of The Union

All my life I've been hearing that "Haitien pa gen tet ansanm" (Haitians don't get along) and it took an earthquake to realize that this is absolutely false.

I cried when I saw Haitians using their fingers to rescue their brothers and sisters after a terrible disaster when they had plenty of time to run away.

I cried when I saw Haitian step away from the rubble during an aftershock and step right back in when it was over to save someone's life.

I cried when I saw a group of Haitian Christians give the little bit of money they know they will need in the weeks to come in order to help the less fortunate.

I cried when I learned about that Haitian man who never gave up; day after day, calling his wife's name, "Jeannette!" until she finally responded...

I cried some more when she said "Even if I die, I love you so much. Don't you forget it," It makes me realize that love can save a life; his love saved her life, and love is what the Haitian spirit is all about.

Yes many people died on the earthquake of January 12, 2010... 11 days after we celebrate our independence... 11... it reminds me of something that happened in my home away from home... Except...

This time it was not man made... Mother nature doesn't want to leave us alone... but thanks God... there are millions of people around the world who cares about the people of Haiti.

11... it's becoming the new Friday the 13th...

Every time something terrible happens to me, I always ask myself the same question:

"What am I supposed to learn from this?"

I hope each and everyone of you, my Haitian brothers and sisters, ask yourself that same question:

"What am I supposed to learn from this?"

I hope that the leaders of Haiti, the future leaders of Haiti, ask themselves that same question:

"What am I supposed to learn from this?"

I hope that WE THE PEOPLE of the Republic of Haiti can come up with ONE answer, the answer that will change our Haiti Cherie now and forever.

I believe it with all my heart that we all care, we are all in pain right now but now is the time to ask the key questions:

"What am I supposed to learn from this?"

"What are 'WE' going to do to make sure that Haiti can sustain the wrath of mother nature while minimizing human casualties"

The Haitian spirit... Wow... Now I know why I am so in love with my beloved Haiti cherie...

No wonder foreigners fall in love the minute they set foot in Haiti!

It's the Haitian spirit!

I love each and everyone of you and I hope that YOU, ME, WE THE PEOPLE of the Republic of Haiti, can once and for all get together to get Haiti cherie out of the whole that it has been in for too long.

We can do it

YES WE CAN!

I believe it now.

God bless you!

God bless the Republic of Haiti.

My name is Woodring Saint Preux and I said it.
