Port Au Prince Haiti Celebrates Its 258th Birthday

While Haiti is only 203 years old, Port Au Prince Haiti is 258 Years Old.

Around June 13 there will be many events in Port au Prince to comemorate it's 258th birthday.

Port-au-Prince was founded in 1749 by French sugar planters, in what was then the French colony of Saint-Domingue.

In 1770, Port-au-Prince became the capital of Saint Domingue, replacing Cap Français.

In 1804 Port-au-Prince became the capital of newly-independent Haiti.

Port-au-Prince was captured by British troops on June 4, 1794. By October 1798 Toussaint Louverture and his fellow revolutionaries kicked the British's ass and reclaimed the city.
